Innovative startups 2026

AAC Clyde Space – Builds small satellites and their instruments, and sells the data they gather on weather, shipping and farmland. The Uppsala-based group is set to supply the core weather instruments for all 20 satellites in Europe’s new EPS-Sterna weather programme.
Acorai – Develops non-invasive bedside measurement of haemodynamic pressures in heart failure using multisensors and AI.
AirForestry – Builds electric drones that cut down trees and lift them out from the air, so no heavy machines need to drive into the forest. In May it completed the world’s first fully autonomous drone tree harvest in a Swedish production forest.
Besca – Creates plasma technology that converts biomass into high-value carbon materials and can reactivate activated carbon after PFAS treatment.
Bioelectrix – Develops bioelectronic wound treatment using mild direct current to stimulate the body’s natural healing signals.
BioArctic – The Swedish research company behind lecanemab, a treatment that slows early Alzheimer’s disease rather than just easing its symptoms. The drug, sold as Leqembi, is approved in more than 50 countries.
Cavidi – A biotechnology company that enables ultra-sensitive detection of low-abundance biomarkers with established immunoassays. Its Exazym® reagent-based add-on amplifies detection signals within existing workflows and is built on Cavidi’s BOLD signal-amplification technology. Founded in Uppsala in 1984, Cavidi brings more than 40 years of expertise in reverse-transcriptase-based technologies to biomarker detection.
Ecotwin – Creates a digital decision-support tool that simulates how nature and ecosystems may be affected by different development options, before decisions are made and interventions take place. By making future impacts on nature visible, Ecotwin helps authorities make faster, more accurate, and more sustainable decisions.
ID24– A portfolio of next-generation technology and services for retailers, hotels and banks – spanning customer engagement, targeted marketing, AI fraud detection and safer payments.
Enaiblers – Empowers low and middle income countries with innovative technology to fight global health challenges.
GenomeVault – Makes genome-wide eDNA and bioinformatics that make biodiversity measurable and actionable at scale.
Graphmatech – Makes graphene-enhanced materials, including a tank lining that cuts hydrogen leakage by more than 80 percent. Leaky tanks are one of the practical barriers to hydrogen as a clean fuel, and a new Uppsala pilot plant will scale production forty-fold.
Inossia – Develops an elastic bone cement for repairing spinal fractures in people with osteoporosis, matching the softness of the bone around it. Today’s stiff cement raises the risk of new fractures in neighbouring vertebrae, and the US FDA has named Inossia’s material a Breakthrough Device.
Jocky – A booking platform where hotels, restaurants and nightclubs find and book DJs and live entertainment, with all gigs settled on one monthly invoice. Venues like Clarion Hotel Sign use it to replace the text messages and per-gig invoices that bookings usually run on.
Magstrom – Builds a system of electromagnets that cancels the unbalanced magnetic pull inside hydropower generators, the force behind much of their vibration and wear. At Vattenfall and Fortum plants it has cut those forces by over 90 percent, adding years to the machines’ working lives.
Mesenkia Therapeutics – Develops new therapy focused on prolonging progression free survival for patients with aggressive primary and recurrent glioblastoma.
MolecularWorks – engineers plants to live longer and stay healthy for longer. The Uppsala startup is at an early stage and its technology aims at more resilient, more productive plant production.
Mycural Therapeutics – Pioneering anti-MYC therapy to unlock the “holy grail” of cancer care, creating disruptive opportunities to treat previously untargetable tumors.
Mercodia – A life science company and bioanalytical CRO headquartered in Uppsala. The company has grown from a local startup into an international partner to researchers and the pharmaceutical industry worldwide. Specialized in cardiometabolic diseases, including diabetes and obesity, Develops high-quality immunoassays and provides expert bioanalytical services for research and drug development. By translating complex biology into accurate and reproducible data, we help academic and industry partners advance the development of new treatments.
NitroCapt – Makes nitrogen fertilizer from air and green electricity, using a plasma process that works like artificial lightning instead of fossil fuels. Fossil-based fertilizer causes around two percent of global CO2 emissions, and the approach won the company the 2 million dollar Food Planet Prize.
Northern Waves – Designs satellite antennas and microwave components that are 3D-printed in metal as a single piece, with no assembly required. Printing them in one piece makes them lighter and faster to produce, and a new plant in Spain will turn out thousands of antennas a year.

Nobula 3D – A scalable glass manufacturing platform for the next generation of AI infrastructure and consumer electronics. The patented Direct Glass Laser Deposition technology produces high-precision optical interconnects, microlenses, glass substrates, and advanced photonic packaging in 3D.
Pathway Grid – Delayed hospital discharge and unreliable community care often happen because equipment, supplies and services cross organisational boundaries and are not ready when patients need them. Pathway Grid gives strategic, operational, procurement and supplier teams shared visibility of physical readiness, with recommended actions and learning from recurring problems to reduce delays and improve future care delivery.
Readily – Develops a next generation point-of-care diagnostics for respiratory disease.
Sortrace – Puts cameras on garbage trucks that photograph what’s inside each bin as it’s emptied and automatically spot waste in the wrong container. Municipalities and waste companies finally learn what’s actually in the millions of bins they empty, instead of finding out at the sorting plant.
Stardots – Develops software that reads a Parkinson’s patient’s brain imaging and calculates the best settings for their deep brain stimulation implant. That could replace hours of trial-and-error tuning, and the software is now in a clinical study at Dartmouth’s university hospital in the US.
Treebula– digital platform makes it easy for forest owners to understand and realise all values in their forest.
Traktor Arvid – Manufactures Drever – a fossil-free, battery-powered, autonomous agricultural machine which is smaller than today’s machines, but large enough for large-scale crop cultivation.
Veltio Pharma – Uses a porous cellulose material made from algae to turn drugs that dissolve poorly into tablets the body can absorb. That gives pharma companies a way to rescue promising drug candidates that would otherwise be shelved for poor solubility.
SampleFacts – Develops a new approach to dried blood spot sampling. Their technology seperates blood from plasma without the need of of addressing a rapidly growing demand for remote sampling for biobanking and monitoring of donors’ health.
WHanalytics – Makes software that maps a warehouse in 3D and works out where goods should sit and how pickers should move. Warehouses that can’t afford robots get shorter picking routes and faster order.
46Elks – Enabling technology that makes everyday life easier. The API makes it simple to integrate SMS and voice calls directly into your systems and applications. Built by developers, for developers.
Xcida – A bio-inspired solution that protects waterborne paints and other coatings from spoilage during production, transportation, and storage.

GROW NORDIC AND BALTIC – GNB is a cross-border scale-up programme for growth-oriented digital startups ready to expand beyond their home market. The project is co-funded by the EU through the Interreg Central Baltic Program.

SPACE SWEDEN – Space Sweden’s vision is for Swedish SMEs and startups to take a leading role in positioning Sweden as one of Europe’s most innovative and prominent nations in the space economy.

AquaGuard Technologies – A dual-use deep-tech company providing NEXUS, its proprietary AI-enabled Operational Intelligence Platform for civil, security and defence applications. The platform fuses high-resolution optical and SAR satellite data, ground-based Edge-AI and support intelligence sources to deliver decision-ready maritime intelligence for detecting, classifying, and monitoring small and non-cooperative vessels in the 5–30 m class.
LoreSpace – Building a spacecraft is a decade of decisions spread across thousands of documents and a handful of senior engineers’ heads. LoreSpace makes that knowledge searchable and reusable, so satellite teams can answer engineering questions in minutes instead of days — and don’t rewrite the same documents for every new mission.
Red Winds – Develops advanced energy systems for extreme and resource-constrained environments. Our flagship technology is a hyper-lightweight deployable wind turbine designed for disaster response, remote operations, defense, and future space applications.

Showcase of New and Innovative Games – at Norrlands nation

Gather Studios – creators of the co-op platformer Stick Together. The team recently took home the Best Design Award at the Swedish Game Awards: New Talent 2026, making them one of the studios to watch
Papelon – a board game studio born on Gotland that connects game development, local craftsmanship and players through indie tabletop publishing. The studio will showcase several games, including Essom, Hamla and Last Vampire.
POTIONS! Studios – presenting Scrooblies, a fast-paced mobile puzzle game built around sorting, strategy and quick thinking.
Worst Combo – presenting Fight the Odds, a turn-based JRPG where players face challenges one strategic decision at a time.
Snappy Joints Studi – presenting Project Paradox, a 3D action adventure where players navigate a fractured world using echolocation, blending fast-paced combat with a unique sound-based perspective.

Ferryfolk Studio – presenting Hollowtone, an audio-based horror game where players navigate using spatial sound rather than sight, creating an experience that can even be played blindfolded.
Natura: Reborn – a top-down sandbox adventure set in a fantasy world where nature and creatures have fused, challenging players to explore, survive and discover what remains.
Moonfishing – presenting Fly Fishing, a high-speed 3D platformer focused on movement, momentum and mastering challenging environments.
Word Race – a social board game where players challenge each other’s creativity, writing skills and strategic thinking in a race to stay ahead of their friends.
Pancake Lab – presenting Excava, a strategic card game where players uncover forgotten relics and ancient beasts while outsmarting their opponents in an archaeological battle of tactics and timing
